Ubuntu Netbook Remix

I must say, Ubuntu came out on top this round. On my HP Mini 110-1030nr I’ve tested a few operating systems and I think I’ve finally found a good one or two. This netbook came preinstalled with Windows XP which was fairly quick, but lacked all that new fun stuff available in Windows 7. So I installed Windows 7 Home Premium and low and be hold it ran faster and I didn’t notice any difference in battery usage. One note is that with Windows 7 the point from which windows loads it GUI to the point which you can get Firefox or Internet Explorer running was slightly slower.

After running 7 for  quite some time, I ran across the Ubuntu Netbook Remix. So using the fan favorite wubi-I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my HP Mini as a secondary OS. I am now running Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Ubuntu starts quicker and everything is smoother and with the Remix edition, the resolution looks perfect.
Applications are loaded in a easy to access menu system on the side.

As a added benefit, Wubi allowed me to install Ubuntu from Windows without needing anything else. Easy. I just have to press power, choose my OS and I’m off.

The one drawback I did find was the wireless drivers were not available or rather not working. I found a few work arounds floating around the ubuntu community and after a few hours I was up and running, not quite sure how I fixed it. But alas it is done. Lots of trial and even more errors. So for now Ubuntu will be my primary OS on the Mini.
