Transform and Kick-Ass

Cybertron, a once peaceful planet, is torn a thunder as Megatron disbands from his brothers and forms a new faction to wage war on his former brothers to take ultimate control of Cybertron. This is the story you’ve waited to hear. This is the game you’ve waited to play. Before the battle of Unicron, before Earth…the beginning when Zeta Prime is killed (presumably in action) a young Autobot must rise from the ranks of a simple soldier to lead. Optimus’ story, the story of the war itself, this is the game to capture your heart and imagination.

Transformers: War for Cybertron is set to release June 22 on all major consoles. Although the title for the Wii was changed to Cybertron Adventures and the DS version will feature two titles: Autobot and Decepticon. The game play mechanics we have seen in the trailers left me breathless. This could very well be the best game of 2010. They resemble Gears of War and the graphics are awesome. The Transformers themselves look one hundred times better than the creations of Michael Bay. The characters resemble our fan favorite childhood days of Generation One.

We will get both Autobot and Decepticon missions in the 360, PS3, and Wii versions of the game. Obviously the Autobot campaign will be of the Heroism nature while the Decepticons shall endeavor on the more devious and destructive paths. These will be Single player and online Co-Op, along with a head to head multiplayer environment. They are using the Unreal Engine, which is an awesome engine for overall game play and graphics. Expect a lot of high octane action and being able to transform on the fly with easier methods than the movie games.

 

What characters are we to expect? From the large and tall to the mighty small we get them all. Well maybe not all, but quite a few. Of course Peter Cullen returns to voice Optimus Prime. Many of our favorites are also set to appear. We shall see on the side of the Autobots: Air Raid, Bumblebee, Grimlock, Ironhide, Jetfire, Ratchet, Silverbolt, Warpath, and the towering lovable big guy himself Omega Supreme. We also see Zeta Prime, but he is not a playable character. As for the bad guys; the Decepticons will feature Brawl, Breakdown, Demolishor (exclusive to Amazon), Megatron, Shockwave (exclusive to Gamestop), Skywarp, Soundwave, Starscream, Thundercracker, and their biggest bot Trypticon. I actually suspect that’s not all. Especially since a few on each team are part of a combiner team. Maybe the Aerialbots get to battle the Stunticons?

As for the background and lore the teams over at Hasbro and High Moon Studios diving deep and leaving no circuit board uncovered. Expect to see places and events from way back in the comics, cartoon and more. Even some lesser known things may be expanded upon. Maybe we will see the story of Optimus and Dion or Iacon and Alpha Trion? What of Arcee or Elita 1?
